From a pattern to a testable change.

“Customers hesitate here” is a finding. “The explanation is too complex” is a hypothesis.

The approach

A useful consulting process keeps those statements separate. First, define the observed pattern. Then consider possible explanations and the evidence that would distinguish them.

Only then does the team choose a change to test, such as a revised explanation, a different next step or access to a support conversation. Agree the intended outcome and review point before interpreting the result.

U Impact helps wealth and investment-platform teams move from cohort diagnosis to prioritised interventions. The work is designed to make the next product decision more specific and easier to evaluate.

Make the proposed change falsifiable

Describe what the team expects to change and why. If the hypothesis is that an explanation is difficult to understand, the evaluation needs evidence about understanding. A change in completion alone may not answer that question.

Record alternative explanations before the intervention is introduced. Agree how the team will compare the results and what would count as insufficient evidence. This makes it easier to learn from an inconclusive result instead of treating every movement in a dashboard as confirmation of the original idea.

Questions for your team

  • Which observation is the intervention intended to address?
  • What result would challenge the team’s hypothesis?
  • Who will review the evidence and decide the next step?

Evidence and interpretation

This article describes a research or event-design approach. Illustrative examples are not participant findings. Self-report, knowledge checks and hypothetical scenarios provide different kinds of evidence; they do not by themselves establish observed investment behaviour or the effect of an intervention.
